Safety of Online Banking
Posted in Labels: Money, Online Money | 07:02

The Internet provides a fast and easy way to take care of financial needs. Online banking is safe, provided you use some common sense.
Email
- To keep your money and your computer safe, never click a link provided in an "official" email from your bank. Fraudulent emails with a bank's official logo are sent often, with scammers trying to get your money. If you receive an email, do not click on any links. Type in the bank's Web address yourself.
Copycats
- Watch for copycat URLs that are very close to the bank's web address. The site will look almost identical to the bank's site and is set up to take your money. Always type the URL yourself.
Password
- Change your password often. Make sure your password is strong: a series of letters, symbols and numbers, using lower and upper case. Don't use anything that anyone will be able to guess, and don't store the information on your computer.
Firewall
- Make sure you have anti-virus software and a firewall installed on your computer, and keep them updated.
Public Computers
- If you are using a public computer, make sure you log out of the bank's site. This is a good habit anytime but is especially important on public computers.
